Jupiter into Pisces: Expansion, freedom, hope and healing

This month on the 14th May 2021, we see Jupiter move briefly into Pisces, where it will hover until the end of July. We can consider this a ‘movie trailer’ of the themes that could emerge for us in 2022. How can we understand this in a practical way? Read on.

In astrology, we are looking at the movements of the planets, sun and moon to bring some meaning and understanding. We see ourselves not as seperate but as part of this universe, and so we open to the idea that what is happening above us, could be affecting the earth below us.

Astrology has been studied for centuries, in many different cultures, including Vedic (Indian), Chinese, Greek and Babylonian. It’s latest evolution in Western astrology is to draw from the psychological and psychotherapeutic, giving us a more compassionate and helpful language in which to understand ourselves and our lives.

As many of you will know, we are living through big astrological shifts, and on 14th May we see yet another noteable planetary transit when Jupiter moves into Pisces. Let’s break this down.

Jupiter

Jupiter is big. The biggest planet in our solar system, and as such, association with growth and expansion. For the last few years Jupiter has been under Saturn’s signs, Capricorn and Aquarius - in 2022 it moves into Pisces, the sign which it rules, and this will hopefully bring us a greater sense of ease. Sometimes referred to as ‘jolly jupiter, Jupiter is associated with generosity, good fortune and opportunity, as well as religion, philosophy and spirituality. Jupiter wants us to believe we are immortal, that everything is possible, and everything will be OK in the end. This of course can have its limitations, as we find that in fact, we do get older, we do get ill, and we will all eventually die, but Jupiter doesn’t want us to dwell on this - Jupiter encourages us to seize the day, dream big and go for it.

Pisces

Pisces is a water sign, often referred to as the last sign of the zodiac. It is associated with healing, emotional intelligence, dreaming, poetry, art, and empathy. It is a sensitive sign, a changeable sign, and as such can have problems with boundaries and self-sacrifice. It is easy for a Pisces to give, yet they might not always feel they are so readily receiving. Pisces understands the meaning of wholeness, of Oneness, of Union, knowledge not so easily valued in our ego-focused “I” culture, yet Pisces can also be very adaptable, open minded and comfortable with contradictions.

Jupiter in Pisces

Jupiter moves into Pisces on the 14th May and stays there until 29th July. How this affects you will depend on your own natal chart (which you can access for free on the website www.astro.com) but the general themes to look out for emerging in your life may include travel, a desire to escape from the mundane, a need for healing and spiritual understanding, food for your soul, time spent in nature and by water. After a few years of Jupiter being stuck under Saturn’s rule (Saturn representing restriction, hardship, learning and awareness of the limitation of time) freedom is the order of the day. This could also be a time of emotional release, hence the greater need for us to explore healing modualies, particularly touch, whilst we can. We must particularly watch for fear, and if you’ve been ‘holding it together’ for the last 18 months or so, that dam might be due to break.

Of course, Pisces being a water sign, this could also mean an expansion of water - so let’s hope summer isn’t too wet here in the UK! :-)

The sneak preview…

An extra dynamic to the Jupiter in Pisces transit is that it is temporary. At the end of July Jupiter will move back into Aquarius, back in Saturn’s rule, and perhaps some of the freedom of the summer might be slowed in some way. However, at the very end of 2021 on 30th December, Jupiter will move back into Pisces and remain there at the beginning and end of 2022, moving into Aries in May until October. This means that the themes from this summer may emerge again in January - May 2022 and October until December that same year, perhaps in a stronger and more obvious fashion than this summer.

“What does this mean for me?”

If you get a copy of your natal chart, you can look for the glyphs (symbols) of Jupiter and Pisces and find out which houses they are ruling. The houses represent different areas of our life, such as self, relationship, money and shared resources, early life and home, and career and ideals. With just a little big of clever googling - the astrology cafe is a good resource - you can begin to unpick some of the basic meanings of astrology.

Remember, astrology is symbolic. We are trying to interpret cosmic symbols, archetypes and spiritual significance in our minds which are of course heavily conditioned. Don’t let astrology be something that controls you, frightens you or upsets you. I have limited space for astrology readings this summer, as well as offering healing reflexology and yoga sessions.
