Saturn-Pluto: power, values and making way for the new...

What matters to you? Really matters? The Saturn-Pluto conjunction on 12th January was a pivotal point in human history, and whilst its changes may not be super clear right now, we are ending one cycle and beginning another, and this new cycle requires that we start to consider the role that values have to play in our lives…

The Saturn-Pluto conjunction has been big news in the astrological world. This meeting of giants is a rare occurrence, and addresses issues of power, control and deep learning. How it presents in our lives depends very much on the uniqueness of our own natal charts, but any area of our life where we are being asked to really understand our values (relating to ourselves, money, work, relationships etc) could be a reflection of this conjunction.

Pluto is symbolic with power, Saturn with teachings through austerity. In the Western world with its value system of money as power, the idea of managing with less does not exactly fill the heart with joy, but sometimes making do with less helps us to really understand what does matter to us. Whether we decide to eat a bit less (a classic January tradition!), spend a bit less, cut down on plastic or reuse clothing and jewellery more, making do with less can actually help us see how much we really have and what really matters to us after all.

One thing humans desperately need more of to is to reconnect with their spiritual selves. Old paradigms of organised religion have slowing broken down and whilst spiritual practices become more accessible to people through practices like yoga, we are still in somewhat of a no-mans'-land, with many of us unsure of where to place our faith. We may have mocked the idea of spirituality in the past, yet find ourselves feel empty despite our bank balance and CV. There is a hunger beyond the need for bread and shelter. Saturn is a great teacher, and as we all know, the best lessons in life are not usually the easy ones. Finding support in your growth and development is NOT an area to scrimp on, so whether you invest in one-to-one support, prioritise friends and family or commit to a regular yoga class, make sure you are nourishing yourself with connection and community.

Personally I see the need to connect as a huge need. We are becoming more isolated from one another, stuck in our echo-chambers of social media and so seeing the rise of intolerance and discrimination. Watch Sacha Baron Cohen’s speech about social media on You Tube here. By learning how to listen and respect one other despite our differences we can remember how much we all share in common, and we can begin to shift the unequal and exploitative power structures currently in place.

Across the world we can see the Saturn-Pluto conjunction emerge in a change of values as new tries to break away from the old. Harry and Megan’s decision to split from the royal family and forge their own path is a great example of a shift away from old traditional structures and establishments to new and unfamiliar ground. We can also see literal destruction of the earth with the devastating fires across Australia and the damage being down to wildlife and eco-systems. It can be really difficult to watch the news at the moment, and the more sensitive of us (I’m looking at you, water signs) may find this time overwhelming and almost unbearable. It is so important to connect and to build community wherever you are. You never suffer alone.

Sending you love and blessings at this time.
