Restorative Afternoon: Yoga for Stress Relief

It is in the heart that our courage lies, where our joy can be found, and where our full, and astonishing capacity for love and compassion can be released. It is also the heart space that bears the wounds of our emotional experiences. Once hurt, the heart space can close down, shutting us off from those around us, and can be difficult to open again. Restorative Afternoon: Yoga for Stress Relief

Stress is a part of everyday life, and in appropriate amounts, can even be good us. However if we are subjected to stress over a sustained period of time, it can begin to affect our physical, mental and emotional wellbeing. Chronic stress can weaken our immune system, causing anxiety, insomnia, hormonal problems and a general lack of lust for life.

Restorative yoga helps us to calm down, by taking the brain into ‘rest and digest’ mode. This refers to the parasympathetic part of the nervous system, the part of the brain which tells the body if it is safe to relax. We will let go of stress and worry, and enter into a place where our immune system, digestive system and endocrine (hormonal) systems can work optimally. 

Mel will guide you through a sequence of restorative yoga postures designed to move the spine in all directions, with minimal muscular effort. By releasing tension places like the diaphragm, pelvic floor, jaw and shoulders we create space in the body for the breath, which brings a state of relaxation to the nervous system, and leaves us feeling grounded, centred well. 

Yoga nidra is a form of guided meditation and deep relaxation, and is proven to be very healing with PTSD, anxiety, insomnia and more. Mel will also share poetry and raw chocolate truffles to truly nourish mind, body and soul. 

This is a workshop suitable for everybody, including complete beginners. Pregnant women and those with SI joint issues are welcome, but must let us know before the workshop, so Mel is able to plan adaptations.
