Restorative Afternoon: Rest and Renew
Sunday 13TH may, 2.15pm - 5.15pm, Bristol City Yoga
Relax and renew with three hours of restorative yoga, yoga nidra, poetry, and raw chocolate truffles to truly nourish your mind, body and soul – the perfect way to complete your weekend.
Restorative yoga and yoga nidra are wonderful tools which can help you to manage your life without compromising your wellbeing. In an increasingly frantic world, it is not unusual to feel continuously ‘stressed out’. We may experience the feelings of stress through excessive worrying, anxiety, shortness of breath or a deep ache to our bones. In these times, it is not just enough to stop – we must remember how to slow down, and feel a deep relaxation to the core of our being.
Restorative yoga helps to reduce the amount of stress hormones being produced by the body, and so takes us out of the fight, flight or freeze response associated with chronic stress. It does through releasing physical tension without any muscular effort, using props to support and hold the body. When we let go of our physical tension, we find we can naturally breath in a fuller and deeper way, thus increasing the relaxation response, and allowing us to process our thoughts and emotions in a calm and stable way.
A regular restorative yoga practice can provide us with the skills we need to manage stress in lives, both perceived and real, short-term and long-term. Mel has been combining restorative yoga with yoga nidra for years now, both as a teacher and in her own yoga practice, and she is continuously amazed with how the two complement each other. Yoga nidra – meditation through relaxation – is incredibly healing for the body, and can be used as a tool for personal and spiritual growth by increasing our capacity to understand ourselves more fully. Join her for an afternoon of warmth, humour and compassion, and learn what it means to truly relax.
